Fire Station & HQ Birstall, Leicestershire for Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service

Telclad was appointed by main contractor B&K Building Services Ltd to carry out the roof installation. The main roofs comprising some 2000m2 with 14 additional roofs over ancillary areas.

The specification generally:- Air sealed Tata profiled steel decking fixed to the steel frame, Polyethylene vapour control layer, mechanically fixed Kingspan TR26 insulation, Renolit-Alkor single ply pvc membrane colour ‘charcoal’.

Perimeters/penetrations were completed using Renolit-Alkor laminated steel flashings/profiles site measured and fabricated off site in our workshop. Reinforced access walkways were provided and large items of roof mounted plant were sited on concrete paviours on acoustic membrane. Independent electronic roof testing was carried out on completion of all areas by L R Services Ltd. to prove the integrity of the waterproofing prior to handover.

Despite the difficulties presented by the work sequencing, interfacing with other trades, high incidence of roof penetrations, roof mounted equipment etc. and the fact that the programme continued through the winter months. The works were handed over on time to the satisfaction of all parties.
